Terms
Terms of use.
Last updated: 2026-05-04
These terms govern your use of Tryst Link. By using the site or creating an account you agree to them. They are written to be readable, not to hide anything; if something is unclear, ask.
The service
Tryst Link provides a free URL shortener, a free browser-based QR code generator, and a blog. The shortener stores short codes that redirect to destination URLs you supply, with aggregate click counts visible to you.
Accounts
- You sign up with an email address. Sign-in is via magic link — no password.
- You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, since it controls your sign-in.
- One account per person. You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard.
- If you sign up on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to do so.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the shortener to create links that:
- Distribute malware, ransomware, or other malicious software.
- Conduct phishing or impersonate people, brands, or institutions.
- Distribute child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, or content sexualising minors.
- Promote violence against or harassment of identifiable people or groups.
- Sell, distribute, or facilitate fraud, illegal goods, or stolen property.
- Evade sanctions or violate export control laws.
- Infringe copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
We may remove or disable any link, with or without notice, that we believe violates these terms or applicable law. Links flagged by Google Safe Browsing or similar services may be disabled automatically pending review.
Abuse, suspension, and termination
- Repeated violations or a single severe violation may result in account suspension or termination.
- We may suspend an account immediately if we believe ongoing use is causing real harm to recipients of your links.
- If we terminate your account, we will tell you why unless doing so would compromise an active investigation or legal process.
- You can terminate your account at any time. Termination removes your links and clicks within 30 days.
Other things you can't do
- Attempt to disrupt the service through automated requests, denial-of-service attacks, or similar abuse.
- Use the service to circumvent rate limits or quota systems on other websites.
- Republish the blog's full text on another domain. Quoting passages with attribution is fine; wholesale republication is not.
What you can do
- Use the QR generator and the URL shortener for personal, commercial, or any other lawful purpose.
- Distribute the QR codes and short links you create — they are yours.
- Read, link to, and share the blog under standard fair-use principles.
- Subscribe via RSS, save pages for offline reading, or run the site through a reader app.
Honest disclaimers
The service is provided "as is." It is hosted on infrastructure with high availability, but outages happen. If you depend on a short link for a time-critical task, plan for the possibility that the link may not resolve at a specific moment.
QR codes generated here follow the ISO/IEC 18004 standard. We make a reasonable effort to ensure they scan correctly across modern devices, but we cannot guarantee every code will scan in every situation.
Liability for link destinations
You are responsible for the destinations of links you create. If a link you create points to content that becomes harmful or illegal after creation, you must update or delete it. We are not responsible for content at destination URLs we do not control.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tryst Link and its maintainers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous twelve months (which, for free-tier users, is zero).
Pricing changes
The service is currently free. If we introduce paid tiers, free accounts will continue to work — possibly with revised limits — and we will give at least 30 days' notice of any pricing changes that affect existing users.
Changes
We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced on the blog, emailed to active users, and reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site operator resides. Disputes that cannot be resolved through friendly correspondence will be settled in the courts of that jurisdiction. (Replace with your actual jurisdiction before going live.)
